About the work: In April 2023, the collaborative art work “Arbor Amorosa” was inaugurated at Stadskvarteret in Drottninghög, Helsingborg. The commissioner was Helsingborgshem and the art work was made by HKP – Helsingborgs konstproduktion with the artist members Joanna Thede, Rita Winde, Josefine Axelsson, Karin Frennesson Westblad and Rikki Winde.

“Arbor Amorosa” is made in ceramics by hand by the five artists and is installed in two passages in the residential buildings of Helsingborgshem.

Public art “Gåsebäcks kulturportal”

About the work: In 2022, the public artwork “Gåsebäcks kulturportal” was made as a
collaboration within HKP – Helsingborgs Konstproduktion (Helsingborg’s Art Production), a studio association at Gåsebäck industrial area in Helsingborg. Five contemporary artists are the co-authors of this work: Rita Winde, Karin Frennesson Westblad, Josefine Axelsson, Rikki Winde and Joanna Thede. The idea for the work came from crocheted granny squares where all five artists each made a pattern template which was then painted on the walls in a grid like a quilt. The north and the south sides of the portal each contains a caryatid, a female figure that appears to be holding up parts of the traffic bridge above.

Art work Hairy Shades

About the work: Hairy Shades is a series of light installations made with human hair which is laminated and sewn together into lamp shades. Together with hairdresser and designer Jenny Johansson, this collaboration project explores the possibilities of making interesting light and shade patterns of the donated hair.

At the opening of Blister Sisters’ exhibition “Recollection: Patchworkers” at wip:sthlm, Ia Neumüller and Joanna Thede made the performance “Blisterpartitur” (Score of Blisters) to the sound piece “Magisk ramsa” (Magical Rhyme) by Leif Holmstrand.

The performance starts with the artists handing out lists of contents for medicines. The sound piece with the chanting of side effects, during which the two performers sewed threads with emptied blister packages between each other’s dresses. The performance ends with each artist cutting off the dress of the other person, leaving the dresses with their attached strings as a blister score on the floor.

Art work Breaths in Glass

Type of work: Installation of 35 individually blown glass bubbles

Size: Each bubble has a diameter of 7 – 15 cm

Content: Within our collaborational project Breaths, artist Solveig Lindgren Inderbitzin and I made a new branch: Breaths in glass, together with Incendi glasblåseri and its owners, the glass artists Helena Dunér och Espen Jensen, in the small village of Höör in Skåne in the south of Sweden. Together, we invited two local 4th grade classes and a group of adolescent refugees, who blew glass spheres with us. Every participant made one bubble each, which continues to bear the form and traces of their breath. Thus each bubble has a personality of its own in all its imperfection, together forming an ephemeral cloud.

35 of the bubbles stayed intact through-out the cooling process and were installed from the ceiling at the library of Höör. They were shown together with a monter with the remnants of the cracked spheres and a photo presentation of the glass-blowing activities.

I and artist Solveig Lindgren Inderbitzin activated Breaths in Glass as a continuation of our installation series “Breaths” for the art festival Bästa Biennalen in October 2015, which was arranged by Moderna Museet Malmö.

Years of Recollection

Within the collaborative work with Blister Sisters, with the members Helle Robertson, Leif Holmstrand and Ia Neumüller, the art work “Years of Recollection” has been produced. It functions as a sculpture, a light installation and is also made to be worn.

The material is a huge amount of emptied medicine pill packages, donated by several generous collectors of which one is a nursing home for elders with dementia in Ängelholm. The blister packages are linked together with small metal loops.

Recollections: Blistery Shades

“Skärmhimlar – Blistery Shades” are artworks within the project Recollections, where the main material consists of collected and re-used emptied blister packages of medicine. Together with the designer and tailor Helle Robertson (who runs the design company Robert&Blad), I have produced these lamp where the shades are made of blister packages. The one above is hand-sewn by myself, whereas the one below has a shade made of material which is preholed and linked together with small handmade metal loops, the solution of which is by Helle Robertson.

The light installations are preferably installed close to a corner where the light patterns through the blistery holes are easily experienced.

Recollections: Blister Sisters

BLISTER SISTERS is a collaborational art project between designer Helle Robertson, artist/writer/musician Leif Holmstrand and Joanna Thede. During 2014 we will investigate the material of emptied blister medicine packages and turn them into lamps, clothes, jewelry, images, sound pieces and performance art.

Blister Sisters is a part of the series Recollections which is supported by The Swedish Arts Grant’s Committee.

Breaths

Site-specific interactive installation series, 2012

In collaboration with artist Solveig Lindgren Inderbitzin

Breaths has a website of its own at breaths.se

“Breaths” is a series of interactive installations made in collaboration with artist Solveig Lindgren Inderbitzin. It is a collection of breaths and was initiated on the alternative art fair Supermarket at Kulturhuset in Stockholm in February 2012. It has since been activated in Malmoe twice where the latest stop was Breaths ♯3 at Konstframjandet Skane’s gallery S:t Gertrud. The piece is continuously changing, growing organically, given new directions as it brings new texts, photos and surprising discussions by the visitors.

The visual parts of the work are the installations with the contained air and the long lists of names left on the frosted paper stripes by everyone participating. The invisible part is formed by the overall structure with traces of the processes in digital documentation and is also growing with every participant, bringing not only his and her own air but also spirit into the work.

Ljusur (Light Dial)

Light Dial is a collaboration project made in Stockholm during 2012- 2013. A series of site-specific light installation were developed in four private homes belonging to people previously unknown. The photo above is from the Light Dial Enebyberg at night, taken by Ulrika Hektor 2013.

The aim of the Light Dials has been to research possibilities to rediscover former and develop new experiences of time through using changing day and night light instead of schedules and digits.

In Enebyberg, in the northern area of Stockholm, a giant sundial was built partly from a branch from an apple tree, which was coated in different blue colours together with engaged family members of the household and placed outside the main window of their living room. Indoors, the window was clothed in a plastic material made out of minuscule circular tubes, which reflected direct sun light by day as well as an artificial LED light string (programmable iColor Flex IMX) by night.

The project has received funding from the Foundation of Innovative Culture, which serves under the department of Culture in Stockholm, Sweden.

The opening brought stunning sun light and interesting discussions with a lot of nice people; friends and neighbours of the persons in the household.
